Jonathan Ward's Mt. Hood Climb for Diabetes

The Children with Diabetes Foundation is a 100% volunteer-run organization working to support diabetes research and assist those living with diabetes. Their mission, in their own words, is "to assist people living with diabetes and support the work of scientists and physicians throughout the world searching for a cure." Diabetes diagnosis rates are increasing rapidly, and I'm sure that each of us know at least one person who has diabetes. While a cure may be years away, technology and knowledge help to make every aspect of managing diabetes easier, from insulin pumps to blood glucose sensing watches.

As a student pharmacist, I am working to raise money for this organization and to raise awareness of this disease-state. I also would like to increase awareness of a pharmacist's important role in helping patients manage their diabetes. Pharmacists are medication specialists and disease-state educators, helping many patients with diabetes each day in clinics, hospitals, and outpatient pharmacies.

In May of 2004, I will attempt to climb Mt. Hood (Oregon) with 3 other climbers. This is my fist class 4 mountain climb. All the money raised from this adventure will go directly towards this organization. I hope you can join me in supporting the Children with Diabetes Foundation by donating a few tax-deductible dollars. Feel free to follow along with my training diary and keep me motivate through emails or signing the guest book.

Thanks

Jonathan
